Assistance for Literacy Programs

The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind & Vision Impaired offers technical support and blindness training to community based ABE, GED, and ESOL teachers who are working with visually impaired students in their classes. By providing this extra assistance, we are hoping to "bridge the gap" between the rehabilitation professional and the adult education professional to enhance the services to blind and visually impaired individuals needing literacy services.

VRCBVI can provide technical assistance to community based adult education teachers by helping to determine techniques needed for instruction through telephone contacts, or by traveling to the classroom site. The Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind and Vision Impaired also has the Steck-Vaughn GED Preparation Series in large print format to loan to teachers.
